The Collection

The main library on the Levelland campus houses more than 75,000 volumes, including an extensive print reference collection and an up-to-date circulating collection, which support all college programs. In addition, students have Internet access to over 42,000 electronic books. Also available are over 30,000 microforms and over 1,000 non-print materials, including audiotapes, CDs, maps, videos, and DVDs.

The libraries have a state-of-the-art online catalog which allows easy access to library holdings. The libraries' online databases may be accessed from the library or any campus computer connected to the Internet and from remote sites via the Internet using a password. These databases give access to several thousand periodicals from which full-text articles and images may be viewed and printed.

To understand how material selections are made, read the SPC Library Collection Development Policy.

Faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to suggest titles to be added to the collection and may use the online Title Suggestion Form.

Circulation Policy

Borrowers must present a current student ID to check out reserve or circulating materials. All materials are available for use by the students, faculty and staff of South Plains College, the residents of the college district, and Texas Tech University and Wayland Baptist University students upon presentation of valid identification.

Reference works (call number preceded by Ref), periodicals, and reserve materials may be used in-house but do not circulate. Circulating books are located in the "stacks" on the second floor of the Library.

The Library's online catalog is available from dedicated terminals on the first and second floor and from any computer on the SPC network. Access is also possible via the Internet by connecting to the SPC library webpage.

For questions about remote access to the online catalog, email Levelland or Reese Center librarians or call the Information Desk at (806) 716-2330 Levelland or (806) 716-4682 Reese Center.

Course Reserves

Faculty can put books and other materials on reserve so that they are available to everyone in the class. The materials can be checked out with a student ID at the Circulation Desk. Generally, the items can be checked out for use in the Library for a two hour period. Faculty who want to post online reserve materials can contact the Library by calling the Information Desk at (806) 716-2330 Levelland or (806) 716-4682 Reese Center or emailing Levelland or Reese Center librarians.
